What is the RSPCA’s view on farming rabbits for meat?
The way in which rabbits are farmed for meat results in a number of welfare concerns. These concerns arise from the confinement of animals in a way that prevents them from moving freely and does not satisfy their behavioural, social and physiological needs.
How are dairy goats farmed?
Domestication of goats began centuries ago. Goats live in herds, and are social animals, living 8-15 years. Australia has developed several new goat breeds for milk production. Farming of dairy goats is a relatively small industry in Australia.
What are the animal welfare issues with dairy goat farming?
Goats, particularly young goats, are inquisitive and playful and their housing system must be able to satisfy natural behaviours that are important to them. Goats are susceptible to stress but good management can minimise the factors which may cause stress.
Why do farmed deer have their antlers removed?
The removal of antlers, or de-antlering, of deer is performed to help protect other animals and handlers from injury. However, antlers are also removed in the production of antler velvet which is used for medicinal purposes.
What can be done to improve the welfare of fish and shellfish in restaurant aquaria?

What is the most humane way to kill crustaceans for human consumption?
Crustaceans show responses consistent with signs of pain and distress. They also have the cognitive capacity to remember and learn to avoid unpleasant stimuli.
What is the RSPCA’s view on killing animals for their fur and skin?
Fur and leather is sourced by either trapping or farming an animal just for its fur, or as byproducts of the other production industries. In Australia, the only animals farmed for their skin are crocodiles.
