All cats, including short haired cats, will benefit from regular grooming. In the spring as the cat begins to shed the winter coat, it will be even more necessary. Long haired cats will require grooming at all times of the year to avoid the hair becoming matted and your furniture and clothing being covered, but also to prevent the cat ingesting fur when grooming, and resulting in fur balls in the stomach. It’s a good idea to get the cat accustomed to daily grooming – just a few minutes will do – so that it becomes part of the regular routine. Try to do it at a time when both you and the cat are relaxed, and it will therefore become a pleasant, bonding activity between you and your pet.
