You can make a difference to our unique native creatures by following a few simple suggestions:

  • Be a responsible owner and prevent your pets from being able to harm wildlife.
  • Consider a cat enclosure so your cat can have fun and be safe away from wildlife.
  • Make sure your pet is desexed.
  • Plant native trees and encourage wildlife to your backyard.
  • Install nesting boxes. These are available through most wildlife organisations.
  • Build a frog pond.
  • Recycle.
  • Compost.
  • Use natural alternatives to chemicals in your garden.
  • Keep an eye out for wildlife on the road and obey speed limits.
  • Remember that human and animal lives are at risk when you speed.
  • Look out for dead animals, as they may have surviving young with them.
  • Become a wildlife carer.
  • Contact your local parks and wildlife service to point you in the right direction (a permit is required to care for native animals).
  • If you find an orphaned, sick or injured native animal, please contact your local RSPCA, a wildlife care group close to you, or a vet.
