All cat and dog owners must identify their animals. Dogs must have a registration tag; cats must have identification in the form of collar and tag, tattoo or microchip or a combination of these.

All dogs and cats sold or given away by a Domestic Animal Business must be microchipped. Any dog declared restricted or dangerous must also be microchipped. Domestic (Feral and Nuisance) Animals (DFNA) Act 1994.
